Further expanding their active community engagement programme across the country following the recent announcement of sponsorship for England Community Lions PDRL (Physical Disability Rugby League), community equipment specialists Medequip are partnering with Disability Sport Yorkshire to support DSY initiatives including the Activ8 Inclusive Sports Festival project.
The Activ8 Inclusive Sports Festival programme is a Yorkshire initiative, funded through Sport England, The National Lottery Community Fund and the Hull & East Riding Charitable Trust. Its objective is to encourage individuals with disabilities to engage in various sporting activities, promoting physical health, social inclusion, and the joy of sport.
The partnership will also involve Medequip providing both volunteers and the use of an electric vehicle to transport equipment to and from DSY’s facility in Wakefield for Activ8 Inclusive Sports Festival events, playing an important part in helping to enhance the experience for all participants.
Medequip will also act as the official jersey sponsor for the Denhale Inclusive Sports Club. The Club will offer people with disabilities the chance to take part in a range of sporting activities, acting as the central hub for adaptive sports in the community. Medequip’s sponsorship will ensure that the club is equipped to provide an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment.
Craig Shepherd, CEO of Disability Sport Yorkshire, commented:
“We are thrilled to partner with Medequip UK, whose support will be invaluable to the success of both the Activ8 Inclusive Sports Festivals and the Denhale Inclusive Sports Club. Their commitment to providing volunteers and logistical support highlights their dedication to breaking down barriers and making sports more accessible to all. It will be fantastic to work with Steve and his team this coming year, and hopefully long-term as we solidify our partnership.”
Steve Smith, General Manager for Medequip’s North East region, stated:
“As Principal Partner for DSY, Medequip shares the organisation’s commitment to promoting inclusive sports opportunities for all, and hopes to play an active role in extending DSY’s ability to reach out to more people in the region in support of inclusive sports activities.”
Two upcoming events have already been confirmed, at The Zone in Huddersfield on 21st November 2024, in partnership with Huddersfield Giants Community Trust, and at the York Sport Arena, University of York on 13th April 2025. The two planned festivals will offer a wide range of adaptive sports activities and are open to participants of all abilities.
