Investment in training plays a major role in creating resilient businesses equipped for long term success, providing employees and partners with the skills and knowledge to adapt and develop alongside industry changes and innovations.
For Medequip Connect, operating in the fast-moving world of Technology Enabled Care (TEC), developing business-wide training materials and techniques capable of keeping pace with change is vital for the future. The new Medequip Connect Academy first opened its doors last month in Coventry and will soon expand to include a second Academy facility in Rawtenstall, Lancashire.
Work began on the concept of the Academy back in 2025. The aim of the Academy is to support both employees and customers to understand the developing potential for TEC, learning about and working with emerging applications which will play a vital role in the future for social care.
The Academy in action
There are several different pillars behind the Academy concept. Alongside raising standards across the business, the objectives include ensuring a consistent national competency standard as well as creating a space to showcase innovations in technology which can improve people’s lives.
The Academy has been established to support TEC at large as well as looking to train and support Medequip Connect staff in the pursuit of excellence, using both virtual and face-to-face training techniques.
From a practical point of view, Academy courses will cover all aspects of Medequip Connect work, from installation and decommissioning of equipment through to management of issues in real-life settings. Hands-on training will be complemented by interactive courses using digital information in a smart way to cover applications and technology.
Addressing a wider audience
The Academy objectives cover not just upskilling employees by delivering training dedicated to Medequip operational activities. The facilities will also be used to demonstrate the developing
potential for TEC in social care to professionals including clinicians and commissioners, so establishing the Academy has been a partnership between Medequip Connect and valued suppliers keen to showcase their innovations.
“Building a confident team across the country with the same high standards of performance and transferable skills is a key element of the work,” stated David Fuente, TEC Regional Operations Manager for Medequip Connect. “In addition, we can be instrumental in teaching the younger generation a different career path in social care, using emerging technology to provide targeted support for the more vulnerable members of society.”
