Medequip, a leading provider of community equipment services, has announced the launch of a new Community Grant Fund in partnership with Community Foundation for Staffordshire and Shropshire, aimed at improving the lives of older and disabled people across Staffordshire.
The fund will offer grants of up to £1,000 to local voluntary and community organisations delivering projects that help people live independently, safely, and with dignity in their own homes.
Medequip delivers the Community Equipment Loan Service across Staffordshire, supporting thousands of residents each year. The new fund builds on this work by investing directly into community-led initiatives that tackle some of the key challenges people face, including loneliness, inequality, and barriers to independence.
Supporting Local Communities Where It Matters Most
The fund will prioritise projects supporting:
- Older people living with disabilities or long-term health conditions
- Individuals experiencing social isolation or loneliness
- Disabled adults and children, including those with physical, sensory, learning, or neurodivergent needs
- Unpaid carers, where support benefits the person they care for
Particular focus will be given to those facing multiple disadvantages, such as poverty, rural isolation, or limited access to services and transport.
Empowering Grassroots Organisations
Eligible applicants include registered charities, voluntary and community organisations, social enterprises, and constituted community groups delivering services within Staffordshire.
Funding can be used for a wide range of activities, including:
- Community-based social groups and inclusive activities
- Befriending, peer support, and mentoring schemes
- Outreach services for people not currently accessing support
- Equipment, adaptations, or resources that improve daily living
- Transport solutions to help people access community services
All funded projects must demonstrate a commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and responding to lived experience.
A Preventative, Person-Centred Approach
The Medequip Community Grant Fund is rooted in a preventative approach—supporting people earlier to maintain independence, build connections, and improve overall wellbeing.
Projects funded through the programme are expected to deliver meaningful outcomes such as reduced isolation, improved confidence, increased independence, and stronger community connections.
The fund will be administered by the Community Foundation for Staffordshire and Shropshire, ensuring a fair, transparent, and equitable grant-making process, aligned with shared values of dignity, inclusion, and community empowerment.
Investing in Independence and Wellbeing
By working in partnership with the Community Foundation, Medequip is reinforcing its commitment to supporting local communities beyond equipment provision—helping to create stronger, more connected communities where people can thrive.
Alex Roberts, Engagement Manager at Medequip, said: "We are really looking forward to working with organisations across Staffordshire to help them support their local communities. This is Medequip’s first ever Community Grant Fund, and we feel incredibly proud to be part of it. By investing in grassroots organisations, we hope to make a meaningful difference to people’s independence, wellbeing, and quality of life."
