Medequip is pleased to announce that it has been re-awarded the Derby City Community Equipment Loan Service contract by Derby City Council and NHS Derby and Derbyshire ICB (Integrated Care Board).
The new contract will commence on 1 May 2026 and will run for an initial three-year term, with the option to extend for a further two years. This marks Medequip’s third contract award in Derby City and represents over ten years of successful partnership working to support local residents.
The Community Equipment Loan Service plays a vital role in helping people live independently at home and supporting timely and safe hospital discharge. The service provides a wide range of essential equipment, prescribed by health and social care professionals, to meet both short-term and long-term needs. This might include items such as a walking aid, a hospital bed for the home or a commode.
As the incumbent provider, Medequip’s re-appointment ensures continuity and stability for the people of Derby City.
A key development will be the introduction of TCES Community, the prescriber-ordering system used to request equipment on behalf of residents following an assessment. TCES Community is already in use by professionals supporting the Derbyshire service, and its introduction in Derby City means prescribers working across both areas will now operate from a single integrated platform rather than two separate systems. This alignment will streamline processes, improve efficiency and support a more seamless experience for both professionals and residents.
Medequip will continue to deliver ongoing service improvements and efficiencies throughout the life of the contract, building on the strong foundations already established locally.
Glen Dennis, Operations Manager at Medequip, said: “Being re-awarded the Derby City Community Equipment Loan Service contract is a testament to the strength of our long-standing partnership with Derby City Council and NHS Derby and Derbyshire ICB. For more than a decade, we have worked together to provide a responsive, high-quality service that supports independence.
The introduction of TCES Community will further strengthen our partnership with prescribers and simplify the ordering and management of equipment across the region. We look forward to continuing to work closely with our partners to deliver positive outcomes for the people of Derby City.”
Maria Principe, executive director of commissioning for the Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board cluster, said: “Provision of the right equipment at the right time can make a significant difference to the quality of life of people with long-term health conditions and disabilities.
It can also help people to return home and recover after a hospital stay, or it can help prevent the need for admission to hospital or residential care.
The local NHS and Derby City Council have worked together with Medequip in Derby for many years and we expect them now to continue to provide a great service for local people.”
