In September, Medequip was pleased to be invited to participate in Health in the Park, an annual event held in Redlees Park in Isleworth. The event is coordinated by the Hounslow Borough Based Partnership, which is a health and care partnership between Hounslow Council, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Trust, West London NHS Trust, North West London Integrated Care Board and the Primary Care Network.
The match for Medequip is perfect – Health in the Park is a lively community engagement event held to promote relationships with local residents, creating awareness around the importance of preventative healthcare and the proactive management of long-term health conditions. It’s an interactive health and wellbeing day aimed at encouraging visitors to increase activity levels and lead healthier lifestyles, reducing the impact of potential long term health conditions.
Alongside promoting health and care by providing health-related services such as blood pressure readings and gait and balance checks, the event is designed to build positive relationships with the community and provide opportunities for the stakeholders to communicate and build their own positive partnerships.
2025 may have been a great summer, but the British weather let us down on the day. With strong winds and rain forecast, the event was moved to Isleworth Leisure Centre and Library, where Medequip team set out a stall alongside other organisations including Mind, BEfriend, Alzheimer’s Society and Adult Social Care.
They may have been banished indoors but undeterred, the Medequip team stationed technicians at the entrances and exits, identifying people with walking aides and inviting them to the Medequip stall for a quick equipment check. This created an opportunity for free repairs to sticks and walking frames such as replacement ferrules, allowing the team to introduce themselves as the local equipment provider and hand out catalogues and other relevant information.
As Medequip Heathrow co-production lead, Medequip’s Davina McGovern also focused her attention on engaging with other attendees to discuss opportunities for volunteering initiatives. “For Medequip, alongside the chance to present ourselves as part of the community, it was an ideal opportunity to talk to partnership organisations about our corporate commitment to volunteering and to make new contacts with a view to expanding our community engagement work,” she explained.
The event has also enabled the Heathrow team to identify topics of interest to local residents. As a result, Davina has developed an information pack which will now be available to Medequip technicians visiting homes in the area, providing useful contacts and information on relevant Hounslow Borough Council services.
