Medequip’s Wellbeing Committee Wins BHTA Team of the Year Award

Medequip and Ross Care staff at BHTA Awards 2025

Congratulations to Medequip’s Wellbeing Committee, who scooped top honours with the Team of the Year award at this year’s British Healthcare Trades Industry Awards at a glittering event held on 4 December in the historic grandeur of the Cutler’s Hall in Sheffield.

Celebrating innovation and excellence in the healthcare and assistive technology sectors, the Awards highlight the remarkable achievements of dedicated companies, individuals, teams and manufacturers across our industry. The Team of the Year Award recognises a group of individuals who have successfully collaborated to make a significant impact on their organisations and/or the wider industry.

Medequip is committed to employee wellbeing, understanding that both mental and physical health are essential to fostering a productive, positive, and inclusive work environment. The Wellbeing Committee was established to support and ensure the ongoing physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of Medequip staff across the country.

The Committee’s primary goal is to develop, implement and monitor initiatives that support staff in all aspects of their wellbeing. The committee aims to create a supportive, inclusive, and healthy workplace by addressing the diverse needs of the workforce and promoting a culture of care and engagement across all depots and departments.

Wellbeing Committee initiatives to date have included:-

  • The Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) programme, training more than 90 employees to provide support during mental health crises across the company’s depots.
  • Introduction of a neurodiversity training programme to help employees better understand and support neurodiverse colleagues.
  • Initiatives designed to support employee wellbeing, including wellbeing walks, breakfast mornings, and wellbeing boards displayed at every depot providing details on local resources and current health campaigns.
  • Work to keep wellbeing at the top of the agenda, including access to webinars, practical health tips, and signposting to relevant support services and a calendar of monthly wellbeing themes.
  • Ongoing work includes initiatives to further improve the accessibility of wellbeing tools, including the development of a ‘Wellbeing Wallet’ providing a centralised resource housing information on Medequip’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by Care First, pension schemes and other financial wellbeing guides as well as Perkbox, a retail discount platform.

The Wellbeing Committee actively encourages community involvement through volunteering initiatives that promote teamwork and social responsibility, helping Medequip employees feel supported, valued, and connected, empowering them to thrive personally and professionally.

“Medequip’s Wellbeing Team stood out for their proactive, structured, and inclusive initiatives that uplifted their entire organisation. From training more than 90 mental health first‑aiders to expanding neurodiversity awareness and driving staff volunteering, the team has embedded a culture of empathy and support, making an admirable, measurable impact.” BHTA citation

“I am incredibly proud of our Wellbeing Committee for their hard work, dedication, and passion in championing the importance of wellbeing across Medequip. This award is a testament to the team’s commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace where mental, physical, and emotional health are prioritised,” stated Fozia Mahmood, Head of Human Resources for Medequip. “Through innovative initiatives, collaborative efforts, and a genuine care for our colleagues, the team has made a measurable impact that empowers employees to thrive both personally and professionally. Their drive to keep wellbeing at the heart of our culture reflects the values we stand for as an organisation.”

Congratulations also go to Medequip’s Engagement Team, who were finalists in the Outstanding Community Outreach Award for their Community Independence Champions Project, and were very closely pipped at the post by our sister company Ross Care for their transformative Community Health & Engagement programme.
