As part of an active community engagement programme, Medequip has been working successfully with sports foundations across the country for some years, contributing to active and innovative community-based programmes designed to encourage and inspire. From dementia cafes and seniors’ football through to tackling social issues like knife crime, the work of the foundations plays an important role in the communities they serve.
On 2nd June, Medequip was pleased to host an event in partnership with the Leicester Tigers Foundation. The Foundation is the official charity of Leicester Tigers rugby union football club, using the power and values of sport to change lives, delivering community programmes to engage and educate.
One of the pillars of the Foundation’s programme is education, and the event provided an opportunity for Medequip to provide a workshop-style session for young people, offering information about the work carried out by the company and the different working roles within the depot.
The session proved very fruitful for all involved, with Medequip representatives welcoming the students and playing an important part in delivering information. An initial short and informal talk was given, outlining Medequip as an organisation, how the company operates within the local area, and the different job roles available within the business.
This was followed by a tour of the Leicester depot, demonstrating how the processes work and taking the students through the typical life cycle of a piece of equipment.
Once this was complete, there was another informal discussion session where the students had an opportunity to discuss their thoughts as well as their likes and dislikes, followed by two short activities which proved popular with all the students engaged and actively participating.
As a direct result of the exercise, Medequip will be providing further support through work experience opportunities. This was originally planned for two students in the coming weeks, but following the session, a third student has requested to complete their work experience with Medequip.
